Michael Tomasky writes in the Guardian: "Hillary Clinton would launch a policy review as president with an eye towards giving up some of the executive powers accumulated by George Bush, she tells Guardian America in an interview today. . . .
if this has been diaried before someone please let me know and I'll take this one down. I did search and didn't find anything, but I've been known to miss things before.
AsDan Froomkin reports today
"Ms Clinton stated it was 'absolutely' conceivable that, as president, she would give up executive powers in the name of constitutional principle.
"'That has to be part of the review I undertake when I get to the White House, and I intend to do that,' she said."
She'd THINK about it?!
It is CONCEIVABLE that she would give up executive powers in the name of constitutional principle?!
This is nuts, just nuts. We've watched as our Constitution got shredded by the Executive Branch while Congress practically handed them a paper shredder.
Is it too late? Have we let it go too far? I had not imagined that any of the Democratic candidates would ever hesitate to restore the Constitution in all its parts.
Now I read that Senator Clinton would think about restoring it completely if she were elected president.
How much more of this should we take? How much more of this should we let THEM take?
I have been reading diaries and comments all day today in which people wonder what has happened to Congress. Are they bought and paid for; are they being blackmailed?
Well, maybe it's some of both, and maybe they know something the American people don't know.
When I hear myself saying things like this, when I write things like this I feel as though I've "slipped between the bells at midnight and into the twilight zone."
But something is wrong here. Something is very, very wrong. Bin Laden runs free, while we destroy a sovereign nation that had nothing to do with the attacks of 9/11. Our military and National Guard is in tatters because off this ill-conceived war. The Blackwater mercenaries would love to get the gig our National Guard used to have.
And, though it's horrible to say or even contemplate, California hasn't finished burning yet. The mercenaries could still get the gig.
This administration is bleeding the armed services dry. Hell, they're bleeding the heart's blood of our nation into the sands of Iraq -- all those brave men and women will honor their oaths and put their bodies, their lives in danger because their treacherous commander in chief has ordered them to.
A question must be asked, and I really hate to ask it. But I will:
Has this administration sold us out?
I hate the question, but I think it is a valid one. No one can be as incompetent as the members of this administration seem to be and still survive. No one can be as spineless as the Congress seems to be and still survive.
None of these people are stupid, very few of them are incompetent. And yet of the Executive Branch and the Congress seem to be just that. And yet incompetent and stupid don't quite match up with the ability to hold on to power the way this lot does. And so I wonder what's really going on behind the curtain as the political theater plays out for you and me -- the American people.
At least nominally we the people have the power to do something about this. The recall process allowed in some, but not all, states is an agonizingly long one. but my god people, isn't it finally time that we took to the streets?
Or has the time for that passed?
